The third book in the Montana Hamiltons series, LUCKY SHOT, is the story of Kat Hamilton and Max Malone.
Kat is a photographer who is about to have her very first showing of her work. Max Malone, a renown journalist, takes a lucky shot with his camera of a blond woman meeting with Senator Buckmaster Hamilton, Kat’s father.
Max is sure the woman is the mysterious Sarah Johnson Hamilton who only recently returned from the dead. He decides there is one way to find out what he has – show it to Kat and see her reaction.
What Max has though is more than a photo of Sarah. He has a theory – one that Kat is determined will never see print. But in order to do that, she is thrown together with Max, who proves to be a lot more than she first thought.
What they discover is Sarah Johnson Hamilton’s past – not the missing twenty-two years – but something even more frightening.

Q&A WITH B.J.
In 250 words or less, what can you tell us about your newest release?
LUCKY SHOT is the third book in the Montana Hamiltons series. The series tells the story of six sisters who were raised on a ranch. Their father is running for president and their mother, who they believed dead, comes back from the grave after twenty-two years with no memory of where she’s been – or what she’s done.
On the way to each sister finding the love of her life, she and her new love must also run for her life as the past comes back to haunt this family.
What is a typical day in your writing life?
I treat writing like a job. I get up in the morning, have breakfast and go to work. I have an office four blocks from my home. I worked out of the house for years. The wonderful thing about an office outside the house is that I don’t stop writing to do a load of wash or bake cookies or do something really crazy like clean the toilets.
My goal every day (yes, I write everyday to stay in the story) is to write 10 pages a day. Sometimes I can accomplish that in a couple of hours if the story is going well and then I’m done for the day. Other days I spend all morning at the office, go home for lunch and go back to the office until dinner time.
Where do the stories come from?
That’s a really good question. I have a friend who swears that it all comes from outer space and all we do it is type it in. Some days it sure feels that way. I’ve had days when I can’t type fast enough. Then other days nothing comes through.
Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?
I’m a seat-of-the-pants writer. I know little about my characters or my plot when I begin. I have to sit down, fingertips on the keys and begin typing before the story comes to me. My characters always surprise. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten goose bumps when I’m writing because I’ve suddenly realized who the killer is. I love the process. It’s the only one that works for me.
But it often forces me to do a lot of research. When I started the Montana Hamiltons series, I realized that the father, Buckmaster Hamilton, was running for president. I know nothing about politics so I had a lot to learn.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I come from a family of storytellers. I never met a writer before I became one. There were few books in my house growing up. And yet, all I wanted to do was write novels. My first writing class was nonfiction. It got me a job at the newspaper where I learned to write fast, tight and on deadline. From there I began writing short stories for Woman’s World before getting my first novel published. My 75th work of fiction was recently published. And what makes that crazy is that I got a late start on writing, not selling my first book until late in my forties.
