EMMA OF CROOKED CREEK: A Western Short Story

Well, I've done it! My first short story, Emma of Crooked Creek, has been published and I'll admit that it was a little scary. Why? Well, I'm not as comfortable writing short stories, and in fact, I used to say how I would never bother writing them. This is me eating my own words. I like to stretch a little beyond my comfort zones. I did that with the British Agent novels and now with the short stories, and I'm so happy that I have.

Am I now a short story author? Not exactly. I wouldn't say short stories are my calling or my forte, but I have come to enjoy writing them. I must enjoy it because I will be publishing a trio of short Christmas stories in a few months. In truth, I write these stories more for myself, and if others can enjoy them as well, all the better.

Don't worry, I'm still hard at work on the next British Agent novel, and of course the next Gallagher installment.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy . . .

EMMA OF CROOKED CREEK
The war is over between the north and the south, but the battles at home are just beginning. Emma Hawkins is a dedicated doctor in the little town of Crooked Creek, Montana Territory. Casey Latimer is a wounded soldier in search of a new home and a new beginning. When Casey, battered and bruised, quite literally falls at Emma's feet, she is bound by duty to help him. What happens next is something Emma never expected.

EMMA OF CROOKED CREEK is the first short story installment of the Crooked Creek series set in post-Civil War Montana.

Approximately 5,700 words.

A little background on Crooked Creek . . .
Emma of Crooked Creek was originally written for a short story contest, but while writing it, I realized that I had the makings of a new series that I very much wanted to write. Set in post-Civil War Montana Territory, the characters, time period, and setting came alive, and I'm looking forward to adding to this collection over time.

Most of the stories in this series will be short stories or novelettes, but there will be at least two full-length novels, one of which will be a Christmas novel, and another an exciting battle-and-romance-filled western adventure.

You'll have a chance to meet many characters from this unique Montana town, but for  now, I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into Crooked Creek.

Available now for $0.99 on Amazon.
