Dragon Knight's Sword: Battles and Ancient Curses with Author Mary Morgan

Duncan Mackay will do anything to lift the curse from his family — even forfeit his own life. But his plans change when he encounters the woman from his dreams, literally. She is from the future, somehow has his lost sword, and can talk to the Dragon that is able to lift his family’s curse.

Brigid O'Neill has spent her life listening to the mythological legends from Ireland and Scotland. So, when an ancient sword lands at her doorstep and she starts dreaming of a rugged Highlander, she drops everything and takes on a quest that will alter everything she believes.

Before their journey ends, not only will Duncan and Brigid battle an ancient curse, they must also find the courage to believe in the destiny that brought them together.

Travel Q&A with Mary Morgan
You've done a bit of traveling. What places have you seen?
Yes, love to travel. I've been to England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France, and Mexico.

Why did you choose those countries?
Mexico was my honeymoon destination and it was wonderful, but the others were places that I had always yearned to visit. My heritage is Scottish, Welsh, Irish, and French, though, I wouldn't be surprised to find a bit of English in there, too.

Did you have a favorite? Would you like to return to any of them?
I have two favorites--Ireland and Scotland. Scotland has this wild, untamed, mystical beauty, which captured my soul the moment I crossed the border from England. It was almost like passing through a veil into another realm. With Ireland, it's beauty and magic is softer--more vibrant in colors--and I gave a huge sigh when I got off the ferry and stepped on Irish soil . . . home. I definitely want to return to both.

What country or place has most influenced your writing? How?
In the beginning, both countries pulled at my writing. Ireland's mythology and legends have always fascinated me, but I wanted to base my characters in Scotland. It's where I first started weaving my story, sitting on a boulder in the middle of the Highlands. I loved the landscape of where I wanted them to be, so after several years of this battle between both places, I had what you would call an epiphany one day. "Why not combine both?" It was so simple. Immediately, the Order of the Dragon Knights came together.

Will you share with us one of your favorite moments from Scotland?
Ahh . . . Summer Solstice on the Isle of Skye in 2000. I took a long walk alone after dinner. It had rained the day before, so the air was crisp and clean. As I stood still, I looked out and a fish jumped out of the water, which was north. To the east was a small house bathed in the last rays of sunlight. A double rainbow was south and to the west, mists descended over the hills. Standing at that spot, I felt the magic of Scotland all around me--one I will never forget.

From the Author
I am a constant daydreamer and have been told quite often to remove my head from the clouds. Yet, this is where I find the magic to write my stories. Not only do I love to weave a good tale, but I have a voracious appetite for reading. I worked for Borders Books for almost fourteen years. Imagine my delight to be surrounded by so many books, talking to others about them, and getting paid.

Bliss!

I have traveled to England, Scotland, Ireland, and France. There are those who know me well when I say, “My heart is in the Highlands.” I believe I have left it there, or maybe in Ireland.

When not writing, I enjoy playing in my garden–another place where magic grows. Of course, there is time spent with my family. They are the ones that keep me grounded.

    4. Nicole - The photo is actually of Alberta. They have some of the most incredible scenery up that way. Similar in many ways to Montana, but I loved that image.

  8. Mary, I'm a great "armchair" traveler. If I can't get there in person, I'm pulling out books -- fiction or non-fiction. They whisk me away...
