Inspiring Imagination: Kids Need to Read

I periodically like to spotlight special organizations, and this one happens to be one I'd not heard of until this week. With a variety of programs, backed by a wonderful group of supporters and volunteers, Kids Need to Read provides books to the generations who need them most. I don't know about any of you, but my love of reading and books began before I could walk. Without that influence, I would not be where I am today.

Kids Need to Read Mission Statement:
Kids Need to Read works to create a culture of reading for children by providing inspiring books to underfunded schools, libraries, and literacy programs across the United States, especially those serving disadvantaged children.

Kids Need to Read Vision Statement:
All children and adolescents will have access to quality books no matter their race, economic status, or capabilities. Further, our organization will provide inspiring programs to increase literacy rates and decrease dropout rates throughout the United States. These programs will be presented in a manner that will foster and uphold dignity and self-respect. We will consistently demonstrate to children and adolescents the need to read, as we believe literacy contributes to school and life success.

Note: All text below the banner is from the Kids Need to Read website. Please visit the website for information on the organization, programs for kids, the history, and how you can support Kids Need to Read.

There are a couple of special fundraisers taking place right now, all of which can be found on the Home page at Kids Need to Read.

  2. Thanks for stopping by Kathi. I couldn't imagine a life growing up without books, and it's wonderful when an organization puts their focus on helping children to build a good foundation--I truly believe books and education do just that.
