Who Do You Read? Guest Post by Author Cindi Maciolek

As a writer, I think it’s important to read other authors. For years, I’ve read about 40-50 books a year. I don’t have a favorite genre; in fact, I read a lot of different genres and authors. Since I work as a business consultant, so much of what I read is non-fiction such as marketing, sales, effective organizations, biography, planning and so on. I do, however, quite enjoy the escape of fiction.

With the launch of my latest book, Divatiel: Reflections of a bird’s companion, I looked through the lists of books I’ve read to see which authors brought me to where I am today. These are some of my favorites. Who do you read?

  1. Sophie Kinsella – Who can resist the entire Shopaholic series? I devour every word Kinsella writes. The books are fun, light, yet the story is strong and the characters are spot on.
  2. Dan Brown – I enjoy how Brown can work so much into a 24-hour period into his books. And, I particularly love his short chapters. They really keep the energy of the story moving.
  3. J.K. Rowling – Seriously. Is there an author out there who wouldn’t want his or her own Harry Potter success? I’m not totally into the whole story, but I’m impressed with how simple the first book in the series is, and how complex it gets as time goes on.
  4. Karen Rauch Carter and Karen Kingston – These two feng shui authors impart an amazing amount of information in their books. They have a special place on my bookshelf and they get used often!
  5. Napoleon Hill – His writings are so upbeat and motivating. I just can’t get enough!
  6. Robert Kiyosaki – Here’s a man who built an entire empire starting with his first book, Rich Dad Poor Dad. I’ve read most of the books in the collection, but there are so many, sometimes I just can’t get to them all!
  7. Peter Mayle – Whether fiction or non-fiction, I love Peter’s style. I’m in love with France, so any story that takes place in the country is high on my list!
  8. Thomas Stanley – His books on the millionaire mindset and how to market and sell to them are amazing!
  9. Janet Evanovich – So much fun! Light, but detailed. Great stories. You gotta love her!
  10. Susan Elizabeth Phillips – I just get sucked in, and that’s a good thing.
  11. Shakespeare – I particularly love the sonnets, but I could read it all.
I hope, perhaps, you’ve found something new to read on this list. And, remember: Support the arts, Buy a book!
